Split CSV Columns Online
Free online tool · No signup · Runs in your browser
Split one column into several using a literal text separator.
Your data stays in this browser tool. No account or upload to a processing service required.
Instructions
- Paste data, enter the column number starting at 1 and its internal separator.
- Choose the header option and click Split column.
Understanding your result
Splitting the Location column on a vertical bar turns Dublin|Ireland into separate Dublin and Ireland cells. Enter column 2 for the sample. A value without the separator stays in the first split cell, with empty cells used to keep the table rectangular.
What to do if you have a problem
If nothing splits, check the column number and the exact separator. A slash and a vertical bar are different characters. If the result creates more columns than expected, inspect values that contain the separator as ordinary text before exporting.
What to know before using the result
Maximum 2 MB and 20,000 rows; at most 500 split columns. The separator is literal, not a regular expression. Short rows are padded. A header receives numbered names.
These tools work with pasted text or supported CSV files rather than Excel workbook files. CSV exports contain values and do not preserve workbook formatting, formulas or multiple worksheets. Formula builders produce formula text to use in Excel. Data processing runs in the browser tool.

Summary
Export separate fields from one source column using the literal separator you chose.
