Find Missing Spreadsheet Values Online

Free online tool · No signup · Runs in your browser

Count empty cells in every column and optionally list the source row of each missing cell.

Your data stays in this browser tool. No account or upload to a processing service required.

Instructions

  1. Paste a table with a header row.
  2. Choose whether whitespace-only cells count as missing, and whether to include individual missing-cell details.
  3. Generate the report and download the CSV.
  4. Percentages use all data rows; source row numbers include the header as row 1.

Understanding your result

In the sample, City and Score each have one missing value out of three data rows, about 33.3%. Detail rows point back to source positions including the header. Zero and FALSE are present values, so they do not count as missing.

What to do if you have a problem

If apparent blanks are not counted, inspect whitespace and select the whitespace option when appropriate. If a detailed report exceeds the limit, turn individual details off to obtain column totals. Check row widths first when a shifted value makes a different column look empty.

What to know before using the result

An empty string is missing; zero, FALSE and literal text such as NULL are not. Whitespace can be treated as missing using the explicit option. Every row must match the header width. Detailed reports are limited to 20,000 output rows; turn details off if that limit is exceeded. Input limit: 2 MB and 20,000 rows including the header.

These tools work with pasted text or supported CSV files rather than Excel workbook files. CSV exports contain values and do not preserve workbook formatting, formulas or multiple worksheets. Formula builders produce formula text to use in Excel. Data processing runs in the browser tool.
