IF & IFS Formula Builder
Free online tool · No signup · Runs in your browser
Build nested IF or IFS formulas from ordered simple conditions, preserving numeric values and safely escaping text.
Your data stays in this browser tool. No account or upload to a processing service required.
Instructions
- Enter one rule per line: condition, TAB, result.
- Use a cell, comparison operator and literal value such as A2>=80.
- Enter the otherwise result, choose IF or IFS and separator, then build and copy the formula.
- The first matching rule wins.
Understanding your result
In the sample, 85 returns Excellent, 65 returns Pass, and a value below 50 uses your otherwise result. Order matters because evaluation stops at the first matching rule. Put a broader condition later if it would otherwise catch values meant for a more specific rule.
What to do if you have a problem
If a condition is rejected, use a supported cell comparison and literal value. If 85 returns Pass, check whether the >=50 rule appears first. Quote a numeric-looking result when you want text. Test values at each boundary as well as values between the boundaries.
What to know before using the result
Supports simple comparisons (=, <>, <, >, <=, >=), decimal numbers with a dot, TRUE/FALSE and text. Quote numeric-looking text to preserve it as text; double embedded quotes. Does not support AND/OR, arbitrary expressions or cell-to-cell comparisons. Up to 64 nested IF rules or 126 IFS rules plus a fallback. IFS requires Excel 2019 or Microsoft 365; nested IF supports earlier versions.
These tools work with pasted text or supported CSV files rather than Excel workbook files. CSV exports contain values and do not preserve workbook formatting, formulas or multiple worksheets. Formula builders produce formula text to use in Excel. Data processing runs in the browser tool.

Summary
Check rule order and boundary values before using the generated conditional formula in your worksheet.
