Understanding your result
Rounding 12.345 to two decimal places gives 12.35. Using negative digits rounds at larger places, such as tens or hundreds. The formula changes the returned value; a cell number format can display fewer digits while keeping the underlying value.
What to do if you have a problem
If results differ at a halfway value, check whether you chose ROUND, ROUNDUP or ROUNDDOWN and remember their direction for negative numbers. Test positive and negative examples in Excel. Confirm the reference and separator before copying the formula through your worksheet.
What to know before using the result
Generates a formula without evaluation. ROUND ties round away from zero, ROUNDUP rounds away from zero and ROUNDDOWN toward zero. Negative digits round to larger places. Unlike number formatting, these functions change the returned value. Supports single A1 cells with optional sheet prefixes.
These tools work with pasted text or supported CSV files rather than Excel workbook files. CSV exports contain values and do not preserve workbook formatting, formulas or multiple worksheets. Formula builders produce formula text to use in Excel. Data processing runs in the browser tool.
