Unpivot a Table Online
Free online tool · No signup · Runs in your browser
Turn a wide table into tidy identifier, variable and value rows, ready for filtering or analysis in Excel.
Your data stays in this browser tool. No account or upload to a processing service required.
Instructions
- Paste a table with a header row.
- Put the identifier in the first column and each measurement in a separate following column.
- Choose whether to keep blank values, then flatten and export the result.
Understanding your result
The Widget row becomes Widget/Jan/10 and Widget/Feb/12. This makes each measurement its own row, which is useful when filtering by month. Check whether blank measurements should be kept: that choice changes the number of output records.
What to do if you have a problem
If an unwanted total becomes a measurement, remove its column before flattening. Put your identifier in the first column and provide one clear header per measurement. If the output hits the row limit, process fewer source rows or fewer measurement columns at a time.
What to know before using the result
This unpivots a plain pasted table; it does not inspect Excel PivotTable objects, merged headings or totals. Every row must have the same width. The first column is the only identifier. Output is capped at 20,000 data rows.
These tools work with pasted text or supported CSV files rather than Excel workbook files. CSV exports contain values and do not preserve workbook formatting, formulas or multiple worksheets. Formula builders produce formula text to use in Excel. Data processing runs in the browser tool.

Use the identifier, variable and value rows to filter or analyze measurements that previously occupied separate columns.
